The navigation system with road maps makes it possible to determine the position of the vehicle on the map at any time (for both urban and extra-urban/motorway road networks) showing it on the radio navigator display. In this way the driver is guided step-by-step to the required destination, by means of voice messages and visual information. The system also provides additional information for reaching general services, namely: hotels, car parks, restaurants, pharmacies, service stations, hospitals, ALFA ROMEO workshops, railway stations, airports, etc. The navigation system uses GPS (Global Positioning System) satellite location technology and is inside the radio navigation unit. The navigation maps are included in the navigator memory, and can be loaded with a dedicated SD card. The GPS consists of an aerial that allows the vehicle to be GPS satellite-located: the aerial is connected to a receiver located in the integrated unit by means of a special shielded cable. Vehicle position is identified by analysing GPS data together with speedometer and reverse gear signals received from the vehicle. The radio is a CAN node through which information is exchanged with the Body Computer and with the other electronic units. The radio is equipped with an anti-theft system through the connection of the radio on the CAN with the Body Computer; it also manages volume control linked to the vehicle speed: the volume increases and decreases in relation to the speed of the vehicle: this information reaches the radio node through the CAN. Some versions are equipped with a series of buttons on the steering wheel: these make it possible to replicate some of the commands which are acquired in the same way by the radio itself. A sophisticated HIFI system with special HIFI speakers and an outside amplifier can also be fitted. (see version with Hi-Fi system) |

The radio P020 receives a direct battery power supply (pin 44 of connector A) through the line for fuse F36 of Body Computer M001: this line is controlled by the voltage stabiliser M192 - pin 8. Pin 43 of P020 is earthed. The CAN reaches pin 12 and 2 of radio P020 and connects it to the Body Computer M001 and the other system nodes. The Body Computer M001 is connected to the radio controls on the steering wheel through the clock spring D047: pin 53 of connector H provides the reference earth at pin 6 of D047; pin 51 of connector H of M001 receives the signals from the buttons to the right of the steering wheel, whilst pin 38 of connector H of M001 receives the signals from the buttons to the left of the steering wheel. The Body Computer M001 - connector A - receives a direct power supply from the battery through the line protected by maxi fuse F01 of the engine compartment junction unit B001. The Body Computer M001 receives an ignition-operated power supply (INT) at pin 2 of connector G: this signal is used, amongst other things, to "wake up the network". Pin 11 of connector G of M001 provides the Body Computer with a reference earth. The following cables with signals for the speakers leave connector A of P020: - pins 47 and 51 to the front left speakers P035 and P045; - pins 46 and 50 to the front right speakers P036 and P046; - pins 48 and 52 to the rear left speakers P030 and P047; - pins 45 and 49 to the rear right speakers P031 and P048. The aerials P025a (FM1 and GPS - stylus on the roof) and P025b (FM2 built into the heated rear window) are connected to the radio by means of coaxial cables. AUX socket (and SD card player) - P157 connector A, is connected to radio P020, connector A at pins 7, 6, 16, 17 and 18, through the AUX-IN Reference, AUX-IN RG, AUX-IN LF, AUX-IN Detect, display earth signals respectively. The socket also receives ignition-operated power supply (INT) - for its lighting - through the line of fuse F49 of Body Computer M001 and through the line of fuse F36 of Body Computer M001. Pin 12 of the AUX socket P157 receives an ignition-operated supply (INT) through fuse line F49 of Body Computer M001; pin 11 is connected to earth while pins 8, 9 and 10 are connected to the radio P020, connector E. |
