STEP

CHECK TO BE PERFORMED

SOLUTION IF CHECK IS NOT OK

1

Check whether the key can be turned freely

Check whether it is possible to rotate the key freely after moving the steering column to the various adjustment positions available for the car model

1. The key rotates freely only in one or more positions, go to Step 2

2. Key rotation is difficult in one or more positions, go to Step 2

2

Check the fixing bracket positioning with respect to the steering column

Remove the steering column cover and check the correct fixing bracket positioning with respect to the steering column.

(The manufacturing date must be indicated in the lower part of the bracket and the arrow, if present, must point upwards)

The manufacturing date is indicated with year/month = number/letter

Example: 2.006 April= 6D

The bracket is fitted correctly (Fig. 1)

The bracket is not fitted correctly (Fig. 2), remove the steering lock from the steering column and go to Step 3

4

With the item removed, check the free rotation of the key

With the item removed, check both whether the key can rotate freely from the Stop to the Mar-On position and whether the catch has returned

1. The key rotates freely and the catch does not return (fig. 3), replace the steering lock and the fixing bracket and position the latter correctly (Fig.1)

2. Key rotation is difficult and the catch returns (Fig.4), remove the lock from the steering lock and go to Step 4

3. The key rotates freely and the catch returns (Fig.4), take a new bracket from Spare Parts Dpt. and position it correctly (Fig.1) then refit the steering lock checking in advance for any hindrance on the steering column

5

Check whether the key can turn freely in the disassembled lock

Check that the key can turn freely from Stop to Mar in the disassembled lock

1. Key rotation is difficult, replace the lock, refit the steering lock using a new bracket and position the latter correctly (Fig.1)
