a) After having removed the flywheel, place the DVA on a workbench with the secondary mass up;

b) place a comparator flush with the hub on the secondary mass and reset the instrument;

c) pull the secondary mass upwards;

d) take the reading

Acceptability is determined when there is a maximum excursion of 1.9 mm; replace the dual mass flywheel if this is not so

A DVA with a damaged starting ring gear must be replaced where there is damage or wear to the teeth on the ring gear
