STEP

CHECK TO BE PERFORMED

REMEDIAL ACTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK

1

With the ignition in the ON position and the steering column switch unit turned to dipped headlamps, check that the voltage at pin 1 of the 14-way connector is + 12 Volt.

Move on to Step 3

Move on to Step 2

2

Check that the connector is correctly inserted in the other part.

Try to move it from its housing by making small movements in all directions, grasping the connector body in your fingers and the wiring in your hand. The connector should stay in place.

Exert a moderate pulling force. The connector should stay in place.

Check whether the power supply goes off, on and/or viceversa (touching/not touching).

Pull the lead and check the stability in the groove (it should not move back): exercise repeated pull-push-pull cycles on the lead and ensure its immobility.

Use a lens to examine the terminal crimping area. The barrels must be turned symmetrically and three-stranded sections should not emerge from the crimping area. The area of bare wire beneath the barrel must protrude by approximately 0.5 mm

The test can be considered over

Restore the continuity of the wiring between the under-dashboard junction unit and the faulty headlamp

   See E2011 DIPPED HEADLAMPS

3

Disconnect the 14-way connector for the right/left headlamp. Connect an ohmmeter between pin 14 (wiring side) of the headlamp and the earth and check that the resistance is less than 1 Ohm

Restore the correct earth connection

   See E2011 DIPPED HEADLAMPS

4

Connect using an ohmmeter between pin 13 (wiring side) of the headlamp and an earth and check that the resistance is less than 1 Ohm

Restore the correct earth connection

   See E2011 DIPPED HEADLAMPS

5

Switch the headlamp stalk to dipped beam.

Check for the presence of an earth signal at Pin 2 of the Body computer connector I

Restore the correct earth connection

   See E2011 DIPPED HEADLAMPS

6

Check for the presence of an earth signal at Pin 28 of Body computer connector G

Restore the wiring between the steering wheel interface and the Body Computer

   See E2011 DIPPED HEADLAMPS

7

Check that the steering wheel interface lighting lever contacts are not loose

Replace the steering wheel interface

   Op. 5550A10 STALK UNIT ASSEMBLY - R+R

8

Switch the stalk to dipped beam and check the under-dashboard junction unit to ensure that an earth signal is present at Pin 86 of relay T1 (lower right in the fuse unit).

Replace the Body Computer

   Op. 5505A35 MAIN BODY COMPUTER/JUNCTION UNIT - R.R.

9

In the under-dashboard junction unit, check that relay T1 (lower right in the fuse unit) is operating correctly and that the relay contacts are not defective

Replace relay T1

10

In the under-dashboard junction unit, check that fuses F12 and F13 are correctly fitted and that the continuity is correct.

Insert the fuses correctly. Replace them if necessary after identifying the reason why they blew
