145 - MiTo   1.4 16v TJet   LPG TANK (EURO 6 VERSIONS)

The LPG in a liquid state is stored at a pressure that can vary, according to the temperature and composition, from -1 up to 25 relative bar, in a ring-shaped tank located in the spare wheel compartment.

The tank is made entirely from steel (in accordance with regulations) and must undergo, by law, a hydraulic test at a pressure of 30 bar for class A tanks. Moreover it has exceeded the relevant standards concerning impacts and crash tests (ECE 1024 and ECE 34).

The LPG tank is certified in accordance with the regulations in force.

In Italy, the tank has a life of 10 years starting from the car registration date.

If the car has been registered in a country other than Italy, the duration and the testing/inspection procedures of the LPG tank may vary depending on the national legislation in force in that country.

In any case, when the time limit in the individual country has run out, go to an Alfa Romeo Dealership to have the tank replaced.

If the tank is disconnected, the LPG must be drained. To this purpose, placing the switch in LPG mode, make sure that the system automatically switches to petrol operation mode.

If the car cannot be run in LPG mode, before disconnecting the tank, drain all the LPG from the tank itself and inertise the tank complying with the prescriptions of the standard CUNA NC 120-01.

This intervention can only be carried out by personnel authorised to work on LPG systems, after participating in CEPAS training and getting the participation certificate.

If the necessary authorisation is not available, contact certified CEPAS workshops to have the tank drained and inertised. The tank can be removed from the vehicle only after this operation.

For the complete list of the workshops authorised to work on LPG systems, see www.ecogas.it.

The tank (1) surface - thickness of about 60 micron - is treated with anti-corrosion products and it consists of a chamber with a rated capacity of 48 litres, containing the LPG in a liquid state.

A multivalve (2) fitted in the tank flange carries out the following functions:

  • Limit the quantity of LPG supplied to the tank to 80% of the available volume.

  • It cuts off the LPG flow to the engine compartment by means of an integrated solenoid valve.

  • It sends a signal concerning the LPG level in the tank to the LPG injection control unit.

  • It displays the LPG level in the tank and transmits the corresponding signal to the control unit.

  • It prevents the flow of LPG from the tank through a manual valve.

The tank identification data is printed on the tank, area (a), under the multivalve unit.
