145 - MiTo   1.4 16v TJet   INTRODUCTION - PEDAL UNIT

CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS

There is a pedal unit on the vehicle, separated from the power unit and consisting of a plastic mounting with the clutch and accelerator pedals also made from plastic. The brake pedal is made of steel. The solution adopted has made it possible to fit a brake servo oversized by 10" and achieve a significant reduction in weight.

The arrangement of the pedals has been made more user-friendly taking into consideration heel angle parameters and the position of and space between the pedals.

The pedal unit has a brake pedal ratio of 3.45, a parameter that guarantees a reduced pedal travel and allows better exploitation of the specifications of the brake servo as well as gradual, optimum braking.

The accelerator pedal incorporates two potentiometers, a main one and a safety one, which transmit the extent of the movement of the actual pedal to the control unit. This implements the consequent throttle opening.

The pedal unit system has a device that allows the pedals to collapse in the event of an impact, keeping intrusion into the passenger compartment to a minimum and consequently also any injuries to the lower limbs.

The pedal assembly has the following advantages:

- low braking distances with low loads on the pedal and reduced response times even in emergency situations;

- responsive and gradual braking action;

- braking efficiency at top levels for the segment.
