MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS - DESCRIPTION

The vehicle is equipped with two high beams in the headlamps.

The main beams are switched on by the steering wheel interface:

- with the dipped beams on, by pushing the lever towards the dashboard (stable mode)

- in flashing mode, by pulling the lever toward the steering wheel (unstable mode)

There are two main beam bulbs on versions with gas discharge headlamps: The first traditional (halogen) one comes on in "flashing" mode; when there is a switch from dipped to main beam headlamps, the xenon bulb remains on and a metal screen is moved, by means of a motor, being lowered for dipped headlamp operation and raised for main beam headlamp operation.

  See descriptions 5540 EXTERIOR LIGHTING

The switching on of the main beam headlamps is managed by the Body Computer.

A dedicated relay in the engine compartment junction unit controls the activation of the main beams via a line protected by a dedicated fuse. The dipped beam activation relay is controlled by the Body Computer: relay energizing is activated via a specific stalk unit control signal.

Activation and/or deactivation information is sent via the CAN: in this way, the main beam warning light is activated in the instrument panel.

MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS - FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

There is a single (earth) signal sent by the steering column switch unit H005 to the Body Computer M001 that manages the main beam headlamps in both fixed and flashing mode: from pin 2 of H005 to pin 36 of connector D of M001; the signal sent is coded by means of resistive dividers so that multiple information can be sent by the steering column switch unit to the Body Computer via a single connection.

The reference earth reaches pin 10 of H005 from pin 34 of connector D of M001.

The Body Computer M001 - connector A - receives a direct powr supply from the battery through the line protected by maxi fuse F01 of the engine compartment junction unit B001.

The Body Computer M001 receives an ignition-controlled (INT) power supply at pin 11 of connector E, whilst the ignition-controlled (INT/A) signal reaches pin 1 of connector E.

Pin 9 of connector E of M001 provides the Body Computer with a reference earth.

The Body Computer M001 controls the supply for the main beam headlamps sending an earth signal to relay T02 in the engine compartment B001 - from pin 22 of connector B of M001 which energizes relay T02: this supplies the dipped headlamps F010 (left) and F011 (right). The circuit is protected by fuse F14 of junction unit B001.

Relay T02 is, in turn, supplied by the ignition-controlled (INT) line protected by fuse F51 of M001.

The Body Computer M001 is connected, via the CAN line, to the instrument panel E050 to manage the "main beam headlamps" warning light.
