145 - MiTo   1.4 16v TJet   REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT CHECK   5040AB

Do not check the air conditioning system in the immediate vicinity of the walls (distance of approximately 2 m) in order to ensure sufficient circulation of air around the condenser.

STEP

CHECK TO BE PERFORMED

REMEDIAL ACTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK

1

Connect the air conditioning system repressurizing station. Start the engine and keep it idling.

Set the required passenger compartment temperature to COLD (turn anti-clockwise to stop). Set the fan at the 4th speed.

Switch on the air conditioning (LED on snowflake symbol on).

Take the reading from the high pressure gauge and ensure it is greater than 13 bar.

Move on to Step 4

2

Check that the engine cooling fan is engaged.

Move on to Step 4

Move on to Step 3

3

Turn the ignition key to ON.

With the engine off, perform the active diagnosis on the engine cooling fan and ensure it is successful.

Restore the electrical connections between the fan and the engine management control unit

   See E5020 ENGINE COOLING

replace the engine cooling fan if necessary

   Op. 1088E10 RADIATOR COOLING FAN - R + R

Before draining the air conditioning system, check the coolant circuit to ensure there are no leaks

Op. 0010T84 AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM REFRIGERANT - DEHYDRATING AND REPRESSURIZING

check the connection to the expansion valve in particular.

STEP

CHECK TO BE PERFORMED

REMEDIAL ACTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK

4

Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.

Drain, empty and refille the air conditioning system with the specified amount of coolant

Op. 0010T84 AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM REFRIGERANT - DEHYDRATING AND REPRESSURIZING

Run the engine for 15 minutes with the bonnet lid closed.

Switch on the air conditioning (LED on snowflake symbol on).

Set the required passenger compartment temperature to COLD (turn anti-lockwise to stop).

Adjust the air distribution to passenger head ventilation.

Make sure that the recirculation is switched off.

Increase the engine rpm up to 1500 rpm for 5 minutes.

Take the reading from the high pressure gauge and ensure it is within the range between 9 and 16 bar.

Move on to Step 6

5

Take the reading from the low pressure gauge and ensure it is outside the range 1.7 to 2.2 bar.

The test can be considered over.

Move on to Step 6

6

Take the readings from the high and low pressure gauges and ensure the pressure difference is at least 5 bar.

Replace the compressor

Op. 5040A20 AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR - R.R. INCLUDES CHECKING FLUID LEVEL AND TOPPING UP IF NECESSARY

7

Check that the coolant circuit is not dirty or blocked with ice.

Restore the coolant circuit.

8

Replace the expansion valve
