PRELIMINARY CHECKS

ALL OK

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

OPERATION

Having carried out the road test

See table S015 NOISE WHILST DRIVING

transverse vibrations are felt from the front end.

Continue depending on the circumstances in which the vibration occurs.

Go to Step 2

1. The vibration is noticeable during take off and release.

2. The vibration is accompanied by noise which increases with speed.

3. The vibration is accompanied by noise over unmade roads.

1. Go to Step 7

2. Go to Step 4

3. Go to Step 3

1

CHECK FOR INTERFERENCE WITH PIPES

ALL OK

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

OPERATION

Check for interference between pipes and vehicle chassis

Go to Step 2

Presence of interference between pipes and vehicle chassis

Restore the correct layout of the pipes

2

ENGINE MOUNTING CHECK

ALL OK

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

OPERATION

Check the condition and correct tightening torque of the engine mountings

Go to Step 3

1. Incorrect condition of engine mountings

2. Tightening torque not correct

1. Replace the engine mountings

2. Restore the correct torque tightening

3

WHEEL SIDE CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT CHECK

ALL OK

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

OPERATION

Raise the vehicle on a two column lift and check:

- that the driveshaft-wheel side joint matching is correct;

- that the seal is present.

Go to Step 4

1. Incorrect matching.

2. Sealing ring missing.

1. Replace the constant velocity joint and the driveshaft

Op. 2710A10 DRIVESHAFT COMPLETE WITH JOINTS (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT - R.R.

2. Replace the constant velocity joint and the driveshaft

Op. 2710A10 DRIVESHAFT COMPLETE WITH JOINTS (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT - R.R.

4

INTERMEDIATE SHAFT BEARING CHECK

ALL OK

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

OPERATION

Check the condition of the intermediate shaft bearing.

Go to Step 5

Bearing damaged

Replace the bearing

Op. 2710A35 INTERMEDIATE DRIVESHAFT BEARING SUPPORT - R.R.

5

WHEEL SIDE JOINT CLEARANCE CHECK

ALL OK

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

OPERATION

Check that the clearance for the wheel side constant velocity joint is not too great.

Go to Step 6

Excessive clearance compared with the opposite wheel side joint.

Replace the wheel side constant velocity joint

Op. 2710A20 WHEEL SIDE CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT (ONE), L/H OR R/H - R + R WITH DRIVESHAFT REMOVED - INCLUDES BOOT REPLACEMENT

and carry out the correct greasing.

6

WHEEL SIDE JOINT SEIZING CHECK

ALL OK

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

OPERATION

Rotate the wheel by hand and check that there is no seizing of the wheel side constant velocity joint.

Go to Step 7

There is seizing of the wheel side joint.

Replace the wheel side constant velocity joint

Op. 2710A20 WHEEL SIDE CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT (ONE), L/H OR R/H - R + R WITH DRIVESHAFT REMOVED - INCLUDES BOOT REPLACEMENT

and carry out the correct greasing.

7

WHEEL SIDE JOINT TIGHTENING CHECK

ALL OK

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

OPERATION

Remove the left wheel

 Op. 4450B02 LEFT FRONT WHEEL - R.R.

and/or the right one

 Op. 4450B04 RIGHT FRONT WHEEL - R.R.

Check that the constant velocity joint fastening nut is tightened and that the staking is in place.

Go to Step 8

Nut loosening.

Replace the nut, restore the torque tightening and then stake

Op. 4450C32 ONE FRONT WHEEL HUB BEARING, LEFT OR RIGHT - REPLACE

8

ANGULAR CLEARANCE CHECK FOR DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL (DVA)

ALL OK

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

OPERATION

Check that the angular clearance of the DVA dual mass flywheel is correct

See Test 1024BB ANGULAR CLEARANCE CHECK FOR DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL (DVA)

End of diagnosis

Excessive angular clearance of dual mass flywheel

Replace the dual mass flywheel

Op. 1024B10 ENGINE FLYWHEEL - R + R FOR VERSIONS WITH MANUAL GEARBOX

Whilst driving, especially on unmade roads, there are transverse vibrations at the front section. This diagnosis can only be made after

See table S015 NOISE WHILST DRIVING

Carry out the latter first.
