145 - MiTo   1.4 16v TJet   FRONT SUSPENSION NOISE (WHISTLING/HUMMING)   S017

TEST RESULTS

0

PRELIMINARY CHECKS

ALL OK

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

ACTION

Having carried out the road test

See table S015 NOISE WHILST DRIVING

there was a whistling/blowing noise from the front.

Continue according to the circumstances in which the noise occurs

End of diagnosis

1. The noise increases when cornering.

2. The noise increases in vertical oscillation conditions.

1.Replace the wheel bearing on the side where the fault occurred

Op. 4450C32 ONE FRONT WHEEL HUB BEARING, LEFT OR RIGHT - REPLACE

fitting it with the magnetic track facing the strut Seeger ring.

This bearing is used by the ABS active sensors to calculate the wheel speed. It should NEVER come into contact with metal shavings because they could alter the gap and prevent a correct reading from the sensor.

2.Move on to Step 1

1

BRAKE DISC CHECK

ALL OK

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

ACTION

Check for any distortion to the disc heat shield.

Turn the wheel assembly to check for noise caused by contact between disc and heat shield.

Move on to Step 2

1. Heat shield distorted.

2. Contact between heat shield and disc.

1. Restore the correct gap and replace the guard if necessary

Op. 3310A59 FRONT BRAKE DISC GUARD (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT- R.R

2. Replace the brake disc

Op. 3310A48 FRONT BRAKE DISC (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT - R.R

if noise persists, replace the wheel bearing

Op. 4450C32 ONE FRONT WHEEL HUB BEARING, LEFT OR RIGHT - REPLACE

2

SHOCK ABSORBER STEM CHECK

ALL OK

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

ACTION

Remove the left and/or right wheel.

Check that the noise is not due to irregular friction between the shock absorber stem and the gasket, checking the condition (scoring/contact marks) of the stem chrome surface.

End of diagnosis

There is irregular friction.

Lubricate the stem, raising the dust cover, with a layer of silicone grease.

If the noise persists, replace the shock absorber

Op. 4410A12 FRONT SUSPENSION DAMPER (ONE), LH OR RH - FOR MCPHERSON STRUT SYSTEM - INCLUDES DISMANTLING/REASSEMBLY OF ASSEMBLY AT BENCH - R.R

If the problem is only on one side, carry out the checks and any operations on the appropriate side only.

Whilst driving, especially on unmade roads, there is a whistling or blowing noise coming from the front suspension. This diagnosis can only be made after

See table S015 NOISE WHILST DRIVING

Carry out the latter first.
