PRELIMINARY CHECK

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Check that the engine coolant level is within the preset levels and that the refrigerant fluid circulates correctly in the system

Move on to Step 1

1. Engine coolant level too low

2. Coolant does not circulate correctly: thermostat valve operating incorrectly

1.Restore the correct level checking that there are no leaks

CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM CORRECT OPERATION CHECK

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

For versions with automatic climate control;

With the engine on and the compressor off, in manual mode with the temperature knob at the maximum hot HI position.

Also, set the recirculation button to the closed position, the fan speed to 6 bars and the distribution to front ventilation. Use the diagnostic instrument to check that the engine temperature reaches at least 70 °C.

Check that the air temperature at the front distribution outlet is greater than 60 °C.

End of diagnosis

The temperature of the air coming out of the vents is not the desired one

Move on to Step 2

CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM CORRECT OPERATION CHECK

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

For versions with manual climate control;

With the engine on and the compressor off, in manual mode with the temperature knob at the maximum hot position.

Also, set the recirculation button to the closed position, the fan speed to the 3rd setting and the distribution to front ventilation.

Use the diagnostic instrument to check that the engine temperature reaches at least 70 °C.

Check that the air temperature at the front distribution outlet is greater than 60 °C

End of diagnosis

The temperature of the air coming out of the vents is not the desired one

Move on to Step 2

CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

For versions with automatic climate control;

Connect the diagnostic equipment and check:

- that there are no errors at the air mixing actuators;

- that there are no faults in the engine temperature sensor

Move on to Step 3

1. Short circuit error at the air mixture actuators

2. Error in the engine temperature sensor

1. Move on to Step 3

2. Continue as instructed by the diagnostic equipment

2

CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

For versions with manual climate control;

Connect the diagnostic equipment and check that there are no errors in the engine temperature sensor

Check the mixture kinematic components are working properly

Move on to Step 5

1.Error in the engine temperature sensor

2.Mixture kinematic components not working properly

1. Continue as instructed by the diagnostic equipment

2. Restore the correct operation of the mixture kinematic components

3

ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT CHECK

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

For versions with automatic climate control;

Check whether the electrical wiring connections are loose.

Disconnect and visually inspect for damage at the connector contacts and reconnect the connection to the actuator.

Check the continuity/insulation of the electrical connection:

- of the air mixing actuator/s

- the connection at the control unit

Move on to Step 4

1. Electrical connections loose or damaged

2. Electrical connection broken or not insulated

1.Renew the electrical connections

 See E6020 AIR CONDITIONING

2.Restore the continuity/insulation of the electrical connection

 See E6020 AIR CONDITIONING

4

CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATION USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

For versions with automatic climate control;

Check for persistent errors in the air mixer actuators

End of diagnosis

Air mixing actuator error

Move on to Step 5

5

CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATION OF MIXER ACTUATOR KINEMATIC COMPONENTS

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

For versions with automatic climate control;

Visually check the correct operation of the mixer actuator from the climate control unit temperature control knob.

Check whether the control on the control unit is interrupted by checking the electrical continuity

 See Test 5040DH SEQUENTIAL PROCEDURE FOR CHECKING MIXTURE AND DISTRIBUTION ACTUATOR OPERATION

Move on to Step 6

1. Incorrect operation of actuator

2. Physical impediment to the rotation of the flap

3. Incorrect operation of actuator from control on climate control system control unit

1. Replace the mixture actuator

 Op. 5040D94 AIR CONDITIONING LEFT UPPER AIR DISTRIBUTION FLAP CONTROL MOTOR (DEFROST) - R.R.

and/or

 Op. 5040D96 AIR CONDITIONING RIGHT UPPER DISTRIBUTION FLAP CONTROL MOTOR (DEFROST) - R.R.

2. If possible, restore the correct operation of the flap, otherwise replace the distributor unit

3. Replace the climate control system control unit

 Op. 5040D15 CONTROL UNIT WITH KNOBS AND BUTTONS FOR DUAL ZONE AIR CONDITIONER - R.R.

6

AIR MIXTURE ACTUATOR FLAP CHECK

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Check that the air mixture actuator flap completes its travel without any impediment

End of diagnosis

1. Flap travel incomplete

2. Flap damaged

3. Kinematic mechanism damaged

1. Release the air mixture actuator flap from the impediment 2. Replace the flap

3. Repair kinematic mechanism

The climate control is working properly and sends air according to the preset flows but this air does not provide the required heating.
