Removing ( Refitting )

Before removing and refitting the window bag module the following preliminary operations must be carried out.

- Turn the ignition key to “STOP” and extract it;

- Disconnect the battery cables and insulate them.

- Wait for 10 seconds before continuing.

FOLLOW ALL THE PRESCRIBED SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS (5580C - Introduction).

   Op. 5580C AIR BAG SYSTEM

1. Working in the front area of the passenger compartment, disconnect the Window Bag module tie-rod (1a) from the retainers (1b).

2. Release the front end (2a) of the tie-rod from the pillar by releasing the tabs (2b).

1. Disconnect the clips (1a) of the Window Bag module (1b) by releasing the retainer (1c) first and then the rear retainers (1d) by means of the specific tool.

2. Remove the rivet (2a) using a drill.

Retain the removed parts of the rivet.

1. Undo the screws for the Window Bag module central support.

2. Disconnect the electrical connection.

3. Position the Window Bag module.

Refitting ( Removing )

- Observe the following precaution.

Handle the Window Bag module very carefully. Make sure that the battery is disconnected.

- If a new module is installed, remove the detachable part of the adhesive label (if any) from the new module and place it in the special folder containing the vehicle details (model, registration date, chassis number) and the serial number of the old module. The folder must be kept for any checks necessary.

- If removed, position the Window Bag mounting bracket and tighten the screws.

- Attach the wiring retainer.

1. Position the Window Bag module central support (1a).

2. Screw in the bolts securing the Window Bag module central support and tighten them to the recommended torque.

3. Connect the electrical connection.

1. Position the Window Bag module (1a) and apply the rivet (1b).

2. Connect the bands (2a) of the Window Bag module and engage the retainers (2b) and then (2c).

1. Insert the front end (1a) of the tie-rod in the front pillar seat engaging the tabs (1b).

2. Connect the front tie-rod (2a) to the retainers (2b).

- After completing refitting of the various parts, use Examiner to check that the system contains no errors.
