First of all, check the efficiency of the battery

Recharge the battery

Battery run down and cannot be recharged

Replace the battery

Check using the

any current dispersions on the system.

Check that the alternator is working properly by carrying out the

 See Test 5530AB ALTERNATOR OPERATION CHECK

Move on to Step 2

Dispersion for services that are live with everything turned off

Eliminate current dispersion

Faulty alternator regulator

Replace regulator

 Op. 5530A24 ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE REGULATOR - R.R. WITH ALTERNATOR REMOVED

Alternator defective

Replace alternator

 Op. 5530A10 ALTERNATOR - R.R.

Check the following, in order:

- correct fastening and earth connection of the negative battery terminal;

- correct fastening of positive battery terminal and all leads connected to it;

- no oxidation at the earth point for the negative battery lead

Check for any current dispersions on the system

Move on to Step 3

Connections not correct

Restore the correct connections

 See E1010 POWER SUPPLY

Earth lead damaged

Replace the lead

Lead between battery and starter motor damaged

Replace the lead

Check that the correct power supply is reaching the ignition switch

 See E5010 STARTING AND RECHARING

Move on to Step 4

Connections not correct

Restore the connections between the battery and the ignition switch.

Check the condition of the key lock barrel and that it is working properly

Move on to Step 5

Lock barrel faulty

Repair or replace the lock barrel

Check the condition of the ignition switch and make sure that it is working properly

End of diagnosis

Ignition switch faulty

Repair or replace the ignition switch
