Refitting

- Place the vehicle on a lift.

1. Undo the screw (1a) and disconnect the connector (1b) for engine oil vapour recovery pipe from the timing chain cover.

1. Undo the screws fixing the timing cover to the camshaft housing.

Removing

1. Screw in and tighten the screws fixing the timing cover to the camshaft housing head to the prescribed torque.

During this stage do not tighten the remaining screws fixing the timing cover.

1. Place the counter-torque tool as shown in the figure.

- Place the inspection cover in its housing and tighten the screws.

    Op. 1008B10 POWER UNIT FRONT SUPPORT FLEXIBLE MOUNTING (TIMING SIDE) - REPLACE

1. Disconnect the electrical connections for the heater plugs and move the wiring to one side.

- Place a suitable supporting stand under the power unit and hold it.

1. Undo the access plug to the screw fixing the camshaft driven pulley for timing control.

2. Undo the screws (2a) and remove the cover (2b) complete with gasket.

1. Install on the timing cover, next to the inspection hole, the tool, so that the pin acts on the moving plate rib.

1. Using the lever of the previously fitted tool, release the chain tension and, through the hole shown in the figure, release the timing control driven pulley placing it on the timing cover inner rib.

1. Undo the screws fixing the timing cover to the camshaft housing.

1. Undo the screws (1a) and remove the bracket for engine lifting and common rail pipe fastening (1b).

- Place a new gasket fitting it between the locating bushes.

1. Apply silicone sealant to the camshaft housing gasket in the contact area with the timing cover.

2. Apply a bead of sealant to the surface of the timing cover gasket following the black line of silicone on the actual gasket.

Apply a thin layer of sealant to the timing cover gasket so that it is not too thick and avoid excess sealant inside the timing cover.

- Tighten the six rear screws, according to the sequence shown in the figure, for camshaft housing fastening to the torque of 0.9 daNm.

- Loosen the two screws fixing the timing cover tightened previously.

- Continue tightening the screws fixing the camshaft housing to a torque of 0.9 daNm following the order illustrated working gradually towards the timing cover.

1. Fit the remaining new timing cover securing screws and tighten them to the prescribed torque.

1. Using the tool shown in the figure, retract the chain tensioner piston and key in the driven pulley on the camshaft through the hole in the cover.

1. Install a new O-ring on the plug of the access hole to the timing control driven pulley securing screw.

- Undo the fixing screw and remove the fuel return manifold.

1. Undo the screws (1a) and (1b), then remove the engine support flexible mount (1c), timing side.

1. Undo the timing driven pulley screw.

1. Install on the timing cover, next to the inspection hole, the tool, so that the pin acts on the moving plate rib.

2. Using the lever of the previously fitted tool, release the chain tension and, through the hole shown in the figure, release the timing control driven pulley placing it on the timing cover inner rib.  

1. Undo the screws fixing the timing cover to the camshaft housing.

- Remove the gasket.

Removing

PARTICOLARI DA SOSTITUIRE SISTEMATICAMENTE

- Tighten the 6 rear screws, according to the sequence shown in the figure, for camshaft housing fastening to the torque of 0.9 daNm.

- Loosen the two screws fixing the timing cover tightened previously.

- Continue tightening the screws fixing the camshaft housing to a torque of 0.9 daNm following the order illustrated working gradually towards the timing cover.

- The non alignment between the camshaft housing and the cylinder head should not exceed the prescribed value.
