Removing ( Refitting )

The removal of adhesive strips after a medium-long period could reveal slight colour differences in paint.

The adhesive strips should be removed and fitted at ambient temperature, not below 18°C.

In particular, to fit adhesive strips, the vehicle temperature should be stabilized, placing it in a shadow area (for a correct polymerization of the adhesive after sticking).

- The vehicle bodywork must be previously cleaned.

1. The kit of adhesive strips on the bonnet and front bumper is formed by:

A: right adhesive strip (A1) and left adhesive strip (A2) for bonnet lid

B: right adhesive strip (B1) and left adhesive strip (B2) for front bumper

C: templates

D: buffer for adhesive strip sticking

E: cloths to clean the bodywork area concerned with the adhesion procedure (dipped in suitable 3M product).

2. This procedure describes the removing/refitting of the adhesive strip (A) on the front bonnet.

- For the removing/refitting of the adhesive strip (B), see the relevant procedure.

If a single adhesive strip is to be replaced, compare the colour shade of the strip to be fitted with those fitted already. In case of shade differences, replace all adhesive strips.

For the fitting of the adhesive strip (A) a single operator is required.

1. Heat the adhesive strip (1a) and the surrounding bodywork with a hot air blower.

2. Starting from one end, remove the adhesive strip using a plastic brush.

3. Remove the residual adhesive with a suitable product, such as 3M Cleaner Spray.

Refitting ( Removing )

1. Clean the bodywork area where the adhesive strip is to be fitted with the cloth included in the kit.

If the cloth is not included in the kit, clean the concerned bodywork area as follows.

- Thoroughly clean and degrease, with denatured ethyl alcohol or isopropyl alcohol, the bodywork area where the adhesive strip is to be applied.

- Wash the area with water then dry it.

- Clean the area using heptane.

The operations of refitting the adhesive strips should be carried out at a temperature of the bodywork/door bonding areas and the adhesive strips between 18 and 40°C (lower temperatures alter the polymerization of the adhesive with consequent deterioration of the adhesion). To increase the adhesion of the adhesive strips, preheat them at a temperature of 30-40°C; apply the adhesive strips immediately after they have been removed from the conditioning environment.

1. Place the template (1a) next to the bonnet lid, windscreen side, then fix it in the correct location with a bodywork adhesive tape (1b).

1. Place the front part (1a) of the adhesive strip aligned with the profile (1b) of the bonnet lid and with the template (1c).

2. Fix the adhesive strip in the correct location by a bodywork adhesive tape.

3. Align the external strip (3a) with the front template (3b), then fix it by a bodywork adhesive tape (3c).

4. Remove the template (3b).

1. Place the template (1a) next to the front bonnet, front headlight side, then fix it in the correct location with a bodywork adhesive tape.

2. Align the adhesive strip (2a) with the profile (2b) of the template (1a).

If the adhesive strip is already placed on the front bumper, align it with the adhesive strip to be installed.

3. Fix the adhesive strip (2a) in the correct location by a bodywork adhesive tape (3a).

1. Starting from the front, lift a first section (1a) of the adhesive strip and remove the lower protection film (1b), up to the division of the two strips.

After removing the protective films from the adhesive surfaces, do not touch these surfaces with the fingers or the hands.

1. Cut the removed lower protection film section, next to the division on the two strips.

1. Make the adhesive strip section (1a) adhere to the bonnet, paying attention not to create bubbles or folds (keep the strip tensioned a bit).

With the supplied buffer, stick the adhesive strip working gently in the middle.

1. Progressively remove the lower protection film (1a) from the two strips (1b) and make them adhere progressively, in the middle, using the buffer (1c).

- Remove the templates from the bonnet lid.

Using the supplied buffer (1a), make the adhesive strips (1b) adhere fully, working gently from the middle towards the outer side and then from the middle towards the inside, as shown by the arrows (so that air can come out without creating any bubbles).

Progressively work through all the adhesive strips.

Exert a higher pressure on the adhesive strip perimeter.

1. Progressively and gently remove the upper protecting film (1a) of the adhesive strips (1b).

The upper protecting film (1a) must be removed by pulling it in its position folded, as shown in the figure, not to cause the removal of the adhesive strips (1b) as well.

1. Bend and stick the edge (1a) of the adhesive strip on the front edge of the bonnet.

1. Check the correct adhesion of the adhesive strips (1a) for their whole length; make sure there are no air bubbles and remove them, if required, acting cautiously and gently with the supplied brush.

During the first four hours after the application of the adhesive strips, keep the vehicle:

- at a standstill

- at a minimum ambient temperature of 18°C

- sheltered from bad weather and sun

In the following 48 hours:

- do not expose the vehicle to sudden temperature changes

- do not wash the vehicle
