Removing ( Refitting )

The removal of adhesive strips after a medium-long period could reveal slight colour differences in paint.

The adhesive strips should be removed and fitted at ambient temperature, not below 18°C.

In particular, to fit adhesive strips, the vehicle temperature should be stabilized, placing it in a shadow area (for a correct polymerization of the adhesive after sticking).

The vehicle bodywork should be cleaned beforehand.

1. The side adhesive strip kit is composed of the following parts:

A: right (A1) and left (A2) adhesive strips for front doors

B: right (B1) and left (B2) adhesive strips for rear wings

C: right (C1) and left (C2) four-leaf clover for front wings

D: buffer for adhesive strip sticking

E: cloths to clean the bodywork area concerned with the adhesion procedure (dipped in suitable 3M product).

2. This procedure describes the removing-refitting of the adhesive strip (B) on the rear wing.

- For the removing/refitting of the adhesive strip (A), see the relevant procedure.

Op. 7055C02 ADHESIVE STRIP ON FRONT SIDE DOOR (ONE), LH OR RH - R.R.

- For the removing-refitting of the four-leaf clover (C) see the dedicated procedure.

Op. 7055C03 ADHESIVE STRIP ON FRONT WING (ONE), LH OR RH - R.R.

If a single adhesive strip is to be replaced, compare the colour shade of the strip to be fitted with those fitted already. In case of shade differences, replace all adhesive strips.

For the fitting of the adhesive strip (B) a single operator is required.

1. Heat the adhesive strip (1a) and the surrounding bodywork with a hot air blower.

2. Starting from one end, remove the adhesive strip using a plastic spatula.

3. Remove the residual adhesive with a suitable product, such as 3M Cleaner Spray.

Refitting ( Removing )

1. Clean the bodywork area where the adhesive strip is to be fitted with the cloth included in the kit.

If the cloth is not included in the kit, clean the concerned bodywork area as follows.

- Thoroughly clean and degrease, with denatured ethyl alcohol or isopropyl alcohol, the bodywork area where the adhesive strip is to be applied.

- Wash the area with water then dry it.

- Clean the area using heptane.

The operations of refitting the adhesive strips should be carried out at a temperature of the bodywork/door bonding areas and the adhesive strips between 18 and 40°C (lower temperatures alter the polymerization of the adhesive with consequent deterioration of the adhesion). To increase the adhesion of the adhesive strips, preheat them at a temperature of 30-40°C; apply the adhesive strips immediately after they have been removed from the conditioning environment.

1. Place the rear part of the adhesive strip (1a) with the edge (1b) aligned with the profile of the rear light cluster housing and with the edge (1c) of the reference tab aligned with the bodywork.

2. Fix the adhesive strip (1a) in the correct location with a bodywork adhesive tape (2a).

1. Align the front end (1a) of the adhesive strip with the adhesive strips (1b) already present on the door.

1. Place the adhesive strip (1a) in the correct position keeping it in place with adhesive bodywork tape (1b).

1. Position the centre reference (1a) for the adhesive strip (1b) against the fixed window weatherstrip (1c).

2. Place the adhesive strip (1b) in the correct position keeping it in place with adhesive bodywork tape (2a).

1. Lift up the first part (1a) of the adhesive strip and remove the lower protective film (1b). Start from the front section.

After removing the protective films from the adhesive surfaces, do not touch these surfaces with the fingers or the hands.

1. Stick the part of the adhesive strip (1a) to the wing, taking care not to create bubbles or folds (keep the adhesive strip slightly taut).

With the supplied buffer (1b), stick the adhesive strip working gently in the middle.

1. Continue to remove progressively the lower protective film (1a) and progressively stick the adhesive strip (1b) with the help of the buffer (1c).

With the help of the buffer (1a) provided, stick the adhesive strip completely, carefully and gently, working from the middle towards the top and then from the middle towards the bottom, as shown by the arrows (in order to dispel the air and prevent bubbles from forming).

Progressively work all the adhesive strip long.

Exert a higher pressure on the adhesive strip perimeter.

1. Progressively remove the upper protective film (1a) for the adhesive strips (1b) working carefully.

The upper protecting film (1a) must be removed by pulling it in its position folded, as shown in the figure, not to cause the removal of the adhesive strips (1b) as well.

1. Stick the edges (1a) of the adhesive strips to the edge of the door housing.

2. Check the correct adhesion of the adhesive strips (2a) for their whole length; make sure there are no air bubbles and remove them, if required, acting cautiously and gently with the supplied brush.

During the first four hours after the application of the adhesive strips, keep the vehicle:

- at a standstill

- at a minimum ambient temperature of 18°C

- sheltered from bad weather and sun

In the following 48 hours:

- do not expose the vehicle to sudden temperature changes

- do not wash the vehicle
