Removing ( Refitting

)

- Position the vehicle on a lift.

- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

1. Undo the nut (1a) and disconnect the electrical connection (1b) from the negative battery terminal.

1. Undo the nut (1a) and disconnect the end (1b) of the earth lead from the chassis.

2. Disconnect the earth lead from the retaining band.

1. Undo the bolt (1a) and disconnect the end (1b) of the earth lead from the gearbox casing.

The position of the terminal (1b) on the gearbox casing may change depending on the type of gearbox fitted.

2. Remove the battery earth lead.

Refitting ( Removing

)

- Check that the battery earth lead is not damaged and that the individual conductors are correctly fastened to the connections.

If necessary, carry out continuity tests.

1. Position the battery earth lead.

2. Connect the end (2a) of the earth lead to the gearbox casing and screw in the bolt (2b), then tighten it to the recommended torque.

2. Connect the earth lead to the retaining band.

1. Connect the electrical connection (1a) to the negative battery terminal and tighten the nut (1b).

- Connect the negative terminal to the battery.

- Check that the electrical system is working.

- Position the vehicle on a lift and raise it.

- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

1. Undo the screw (1a) and disconnect the end (1b) of the earth lead from the gearbox casing.

The position of the terminal (1b) on the gearbox casing may change depending on the type of gearbox fitted.

- Lower the vehicle.

1. Unscrew the nut (1a) and disconnect the electrical connection (1b) from the negative battery terminal (1c).

2. Open the retaining bands (2a) and remove the battery earth lead (2b).

Refitting ( Removing

)

- Check that the battery earth lead is not damaged and that the individual conductors are correctly fastened to the connections.

1. Position the battery earth lead (1a) and engage it with the retaining bands (1b).

2. Connect the electrical connection (2a) to the negative battery terminal (2b), then tighten the nut (2c).

- Raise the vehicle.

1. Connect the terminal (1a) of the earth lead to the chassis, then tighten the nut (1b) to the prescribed torque.
