CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Carry out the fault diagnosis of the Air Bag system until one or more errors of the Present type are notified by the control unit

Move on to Step 5

The diagnostic equipment signals one or more Intermittent type errors

Check that the contact for the wiring connector pins is not loose (pins unstable in their housing, oxidized or distorted).

 See E7030 AIRBAG

Stress the Air Bag wiring (including any intermediate wiring and connectors between the control unit and the component) and move on to Step 4

4

CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Check whether the Intermittent type errors have become Present type errors

Move on to Step 5

The Intermittent type errors have remained the Intermittent type

Delete the errors and move on to step 7

Operation

Check that the fault is no longer present

End of diagnosis

Fault persists

Replace the Air Bag control unit

 Op. 5580C14 AIR BAG ECU - R+R

The Air Bag fault warning light is controlled by a dedicated connection to the Air Bag control unit Instrument Panel Node.

To apply this procedure, the following must be borne in mind:

1 - Measurements cannot be taken on the Air Bag wiring.

2 - The system fault diagnosis is started leaving the vehicle charges connected.

3- The fault should be "Present" or "Present Intermittently" and not "Intermittent". If the fault is Intermittent then the Procedure is not applicable; proceed with an accurate check on the line where the fault was signalled.

4 - Not all the simulation sensors are available (e.g. side impact sensors).

The Air Bag wiring is a safety component. If there are problems with the cables or the connectors then the wiring should be replaced in one piece.
