Refitting

- Do not remove the ignition with the steering lock on the car because the vibrations generated during removal of the shear bolts could cause damage to the steering column unit.

Follow the instructions for the following operation meticulously.

   Op. 5580C18 AIR BAG MODULE - R+R

1. Use collar (1a) to secure the steering column unit shaft (1b) so that it cannot turn during removal of the switch with steering lock.

Avoid moving the steering lock components. Do not withdraw interior parts and do not turn the steering column.

1. Remove the shear bolts using a drift and mallet.

2. Remove the half-collar.

3. Remove the ignition with steering lock.

4. If necessary, drill out rivets (4a) and remove mount (4b).

Removing

- Check that the ignition with steering lock is not damaged.

- If removed, position the mount and apply rivets.

- Remove the ignition with steering lock in its seat.

- Position the half collar.

- Screw in and tighten the new special bolts until the heads shear off.

- Remove the clip from the steering column shaft.
