Removing ( Refitting )

Before removing and refitting the airbag module the following preliminary operations must be carried out.

- Position the vehicle with the front wheels straight.

- Turn the ignition key to “STOP” and extract it;

- Disconnect the battery cables and insulate them.

- Wait for 10 seconds before continuing.

1. To remove the airbag module, a medium-bladed screwdriver (1a) (blade dimensions: about 1.2 x 6.5 mm) is required.

2. Mark a distance of about 65 mm from the end of the blade on the shaft of the screwdriver, as shown in the picture (insertion length).

1. Position the screwdriver (1a) with the blade (1b) in vertical position, then insert it into the right template (1c) of the steering wheel's precut hole.

1. Continue to insert the screwdriver (1a) carefully and gradually into the steering wheel, sliding it on the inner guide (1b); insert it up to the 65 mm reference marked previously. In this condition the screwdriver is in position (1c); turn it according to the arrow (1d) to bend the flexible bracket (1e) for the airbag module (1f), releasing it from the steering wheel retainers (1g).

2. Slightly raise the right side of the airbag to prevent the flexible bracket (1e) from re-engaging with the retainers (1g).

1. Also release the left side of the airbag module following the same procedure as described for the right side.

2. Carefully raise the airbag module.

1. Disconnect the electrical connections (1b) (1c) (1d) from the airbag module (1a).

2. Keep the airbag module.

Place the airbag module in the special cabinet, resting it on a free surface with the bag facing upwards.

Refitting ( Removing )

- Observe the following precaution.

Handle the airbag module very carefully. Make sure that the battery is disconnected.

- If a new module is installed, remove the detachable part of the adhesive label (if any) from the new module and place it in the special folder containing the vehicle details (model, registration date, chassis number) and the serial number of the old module. The folder must be kept for any checks necessary.

- Connect the electrical connections for the airbag module.

- Place the airbag module in its housing and engage its flexible brackets with the steering wheel retainers.

- Connect the battery.

- Use Examiner to check that the system has not acquired errors during the operation.
