Removing ( Refitting )

Follow the safety instructions for this operation meticulously

   Op. 5580C18 AIR BAG MODULE - R+R

- Place the steering wheel in a central position with the wheels straight.

   Op. 4110A10 STEERING WHEEL - R+R FOR REPLACEMENT OR CHECKS

   Op. 7040A26 STEERING COLUMN TRIM - R+R

1. Clock spring (1a) is fitted with a device that automatically stops it from rotating when it is removed from the steering column. If the steering wheel interface (1f) is reused, take care not to press clock spring ring (1b) in order not to turn upper wheel (1c) as opposed to lower wheel (1d) and affect the operation of the clock spring.

In the event of reuse of the clock spring it is advisable to tie up the two wheels (1c) and (1d) by applying a band to retainers (1e)

The clock spring cannot be separated from the steering column stalk and has a useful life of 10 years.

1. Detach the electrical connections (1a, 1b).

2. Release the wiring (2a) from the steering wheel interface retainers (2b).

1. Working on the lower part of the steering wheel interface, undo bolt (1a) and loosen steering wheel interface band (1b).

2. Move steering wheel interface (2a) by releasing retainer (2b) from the steering column housing.

3. Keep the steering wheel interface unit.

Refitting ( Removing )

- Check that the steering wheel interface is not damaged.

1. If the dismantled steering wheel interface is refitted, remove the band applied to retainers (1a) for securing the wheels.

2. If the steering column stalk to be fitted is new, remove the tab fixing both the ring nuts, applied to retainers (1a).

- Check that the vehicle's wheels are straight.

1. Insert steering wheel interface (1a) in position, engaging retainer (1b) in the steering column housing.

2. Tighten screw (2a) by tightening band (2b) securing steering wheel interface.
