Removing ( Refitting )

- Straighten the front wheels, engage the first steering lock towards the right and remove the ignition key.

- Keep the steering column adjustment lever closed during all the removing-refitting stages.

Avoid the upper shaft slipping out during the removal of the electrically controlled steering when it is removed from its housing.

1. Undo the bolt (1a) fixing the steering column (1b) to the steering box pinion.

1. Disconnect the electrical connections for the EPS control unit.

1. Undo the nuts (1a) and the bolts (1b) securing the electrically controlled steering to the under-dashboard crossmember.

1. Grasp the electrically controlled steering and remove it from its housing releasing it firstly from the two studs and then from the under-dashboard crossmember.

If the electrically controlled steering is being reused, avoid the upper shaft being released. Therefore bind the moving parts as illustrated in the diagram.

- If necessary, remove the ignition switch with reference to

    Op. 5520A10 IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY - R+R

Refitting ( Removing )

1. Fit the electrically controlled steering in place and tighten the bolts (1b) and the nuts (1c) to the recommended torque.

- Remove the binding from the moving parts of the electrically controlled steering.

- Connect the electrical connections for the EPS control unit.

1. Connect the steering column (1a) to the steering box pinion and tighten the new bolt (1b) to the recommended torque.

If the electrically controlled steering is being replaced, connect the Examiner to carry out the calibration of the "position sensor".
