CONTROL UNITS
Specific checks – Network Information
|
|
APPLICABILITY
The instructions in this Service News apply to all control units in all models of the group.
OPERATIONS AT THE DEALERSHIPS
If one or more of the listed issues is found, carry out the visual inspections and consistency checks described in the paragraphs before making any repairs.

The control unit does not communicate with the diagnosis equipment.
-
It is not possible to reprogram the software.
-
There are DTC errors referring to a “control unit internal fault”.
-
Recurrent faults.
Visual inspections
Carry out the following visual inspections:
-
Diagnosis connector (EOBD) seat inside the passenger compartment to check for integrity/loose connections.

Control unit seat to check if it was removed recently.
-
Control unit connector integrity.
-
Wiring integrity and position.
Remove the control unit and carefully check the outside, specifically:
-
Check underneath the control unit for excessive silicone or different types of silicone (Fig. 1).

Check for signs of opening, bent containers, marks left by tools, scratches on the closing screw heads, catches/latches broken/tampered with, etc. (Fig. 2).

Data consistency check
Connect the diagnosis equipment, select the control unit in question, check the following parameters and note them down:

SW version
-
SW number
-
HW number
-
HW version
-
Number of times reprogrammed (check consistency with the service history)
-
Date of last reprogramming (check consistency with the service history)
-
Odometer (*) since last reprogramming (km) (check consistency with the service history)
-
Odometer (*) (km) (check consistency with the service history)
-
Production date (check consistency with the vehicle production date)
-
ECU serial data
(*) where provided
If there is tampering, additional components, components other than those installed originally or dubious situations:
Contact TeSeO with an e-Contact Ticket, attaching the following documentation:

Photo of the control unit label.
-
Detailed photo of the control unit with evidence of the abnormal conditions.
-
Vehicle Scan Report executed with the diagnosis equipment.
-
Fill in the “CLAIMED FAULT” field with the number of this Service New and the words “ESCALATION 2633”

The photos must be in focus and correctly exposed.

Inform the customer that, if tampering is confirmed:
-
In accordance with the information given in the Warranty Booklet and Owner Handbook, the manufacturer's warranty on the vehicle is, for all legal purposes, void with immediate effect.

Moreover, to ensure that the vehicle maintains its original safety requirements and conformity, the components found to have been tampered with, or that are different from the correct ones, must be fully restored at the customer's expense.

If, for any reason, the customer decides not to proceed with replacing the aforementioned components, FCA Italy S.p.A. declines any liability for damage arising from failure to do so.
