Irregular operation with LPG supply and switching-on of engine injection/control system failure warning light - Service Solution

Cancels and replaces SN 10.11.11 of 23/11/2011 to give detailed explanation about the LPG fuel supply circuit fouling.

FAULT COMPLAINED OF

Irregular operation with LPG supply and switching-on of engine injection/control system failure warning light.

TECHNICAL CAUSE

LPG injector fouling due to an incorrect fuel filtering.

OPERATIONS IN NETWORK

Network behaviour standards towards the Customer

  • Once the customer's claimed fault is confirmed, reassure the Customer that the fault will be solved by replacing the LPG injectors and the fuel filter.
  • After the operation, show the Customer what has been done and make sure he is satisfied.

Service Solution

Once the customer's claimed fault is confirmed, replace the LPG injector assembly and the LPG filter according to the Operating Cycle below.

OPERATION CYCLE

Strictly comply with the safety prescriptions in case of operations on LPG system, with reference to the instructions of the specific paragraphs of the Service Manual and the Service News 10.27.10

On the above Euro 4 vehicles only, replace the LPG filter (A - Fig. 1) and the LPG injector assembly (B) with new parts from the Spare Parts Dpt. according the following procedures of the Service Manual

  • Op. 1057B60 for the replacement of the LPG fuel supply filter with a new one, coalescent type
  • Op. 1057B66 for LPG injector assembly replacement

NOTES

Small quantities of oil residues and foreign bodies in the LPG as a result of processing, transport, storage and distribution operations might enter the vehicle fuel supply system during the standard LPG fuel supply stages; therefore, they might foul injectors with a resulting irregular operation of the vehicle.

In case of many faults and irregular operation due to the presence of deposits and foreign bodies, this effect can be reduced proceeding as follows:

  • Replace both LPG filters: the one between pressure regulator and injectors (A – Fig. 1) and the one inside the same regulator (D), repeating this procedure more frequently than what stated in the Scheduled Servicing Plan.
  • As described in SN 10.05.13, use "PETRONAS – Tutela Professional – GPL [LPG] Clean" (code 23203110) which, developed in cooperation with Petronas and Landi, is compatible with all the materials of the LPG supply circuit and prevents reactions preventing its operation. It is not advisable to use other products available on the market which may not guarantee the same cleaning efficiency and cause faults to the LPG system, with resulting decay of the component guarantee.
