Possible engine starting failure - Service Solution

FAULT COMPLAINED OF

Possible engine starting failure.

The fault might occur when making a key-off briefly by-passing the MAR-ON position and waiting for more than 4 seconds before placing the key to the AVV position. Bringing back the key to STOP and repeating the starting manoeuvre, the engine starts regularly.

TECHNICAL CAUSE

Software parameters not ideal.

OPERATIONS IN NETWORK

Network behaviour standards towards the Customer

  • Once the customer's claimed fault is confirmed, reassure the customer that it will be solved by reprogramming the Body Computer.
  • After the operation, show the Customer what has been done, make sure the customer is satisfied and inform him about some changes of the Start&Stop system activation/deactivation logics.

Service Solution

If the customer's claimed fault is confirmed, reprogramme the Body Computer using the new software WEB Flash 9.20.0 (or higher) available from Examiner Web and wiTEXEDI according to the Operating Cycle below.

OPERATION CYCLE

Connect Examiner or wiTECH Plus (Examiner Emulator) release 8.20.21 (or higher) to reprogramme the Body Computer using the WEB Flash 9.20.0 (or higher) available from ExaminerWeb and wiTEXEDi.

To reprogramme, the car battery must be fully charged or supported by a battery charger/booster battery, so as to guarantee the rated voltage of 12 V.

START&STOP SYSTEM – NEW OPERATING LOGICS

After reprogramming the Body Computer, the following activation/deactivation logics for the Start&Stop system will be modified.

Before handing the car to the customer, inform the Customer about the following operating logics

Memorisation of the Start&Stop system status when the engine is switched off

  • Before reprogramming, after each engine starting the Start&Stop system was always activated even if it had been deactivated before switching the engine off.
  • After reprogramming, the Start&Stop system will keep the same status (activated or deactivated) it had before the last switching off.

Elimination of the Start&Stop system deactivation when the heated rear window is on

  • Before reprogramming, the Start&Stop system deactivated when the rear window was switched on.
  • After reprogramming, the Start&Stop system will be activated even if the heated rear window is switched on.

Elimination of the Start&Stop system deactivation when the window wiper is at max. speed

  • Before reprogramming, the Start&Stop system deactivated when the window wiper max. speed was selected.
  • After reprogramming, the Start&Stop system will be activated even at the max. window wiper speed.

Decrease of the operation time of the Start&Stop button deactivation

  • Before reprogramming, to deactivate the Start&Stop system the relevant button had to be pressed for at least 300 ms.
  • After reprogramming, just keep the button pressed for 50 ms.
