Cancels and replaces SN 10.14.10 of 23.04.2010 through the addition of new contents.

FAULT COMPLAINED OF

Impossible diagnosis of the LPG injection system using the Examiner.

TECHNICAL CAUSE

In some cases, the connection between EOBD socket and LPG control unit has not been made correctly.

Service Solution

If the diagnosis with Examiner cannot be performed on the LPG injection system, restore the correct connection between EOBD socket and LPG control unit, according to the following Operating Cycle.

OPERATION CYCLE

Remove the fuse lid on the instrument panel, with reference to Op. 7040A37 of the Service Manual, to reach the EODB socket connector. Disconnect the battery negative terminal, then:

-Release the switch (1 - Fig. 1) for LPG/petrol selection from the dashboard trim; disconnect the electrical connection of the LPG/petrol selection switch (2) and remove it.

    -Remove the insulating tape from the switch wiring (1 - Fig. 2) and find out the light grey diagnosis line cable (2), arranged with a pin already clamped on.

      -Apply a tester cable (1 - Fig. 3) for its further collection and take out the switch wiring (2) from the dashboard, as shown.

      Never pull the wiring (2) too much to remove it from the dashboard.

        -Cut by about 20 cm the sheath of the switch wiring, paying attention not to damage the cables, to release the light grey cable of the diagnosis line (1 - Fig. 4).-Refit the cables for the LPG/petrol switch selection switch in the sheath and fasten with insulating tape.

          -Release the EOBD socket connector (1 - Fig. 5) working on the side and placing a screwdriver in the area shown.

            -Find out on the back of the EOBD socket connector the cavity marked by no. 7 (next to the green cable), shown in Fig. 6, and fit the pin (1: the cable can be recognised because it is light grey) in the cavity, in the correct direction.

            Pay attention to the metal sound for the pin fastening in its cavity.

              -Reposition the EODB socket connector in its cavity and make sure it is correctly secured.-Using the tester cable previously fitted, take back the LPG/petrol switch wiring through the relevant hole in the dashboard.-Reconnect the wiring to the switch.-Reposition the LPG/petrol switch in its place, pressing on its sides so that it fits perfectly in the dashboard trim, as shown in fig. 7.

              The LPG/petrol switch is installed correctly when the vertical bar for LPG level is on the door side.



                -Working in the engine compartment, check the correct route of the wiring (1 - Fig. 8) making sure it is not tensioned. In this case, apply a suitable guard in the sheet panel section shown, to protect it from possible scratches in the contact area.

                  -Connect the Examiner and check the possibility of connecting to the LPG control unit, as shown in fig. 9.

                    Reposition the fuse lid on the instrument panel, with reference to Op. 7040A37 of the Service Manual.

                    Connect the negative battery terminal.
