Traces of water and/or moisture under the dashboard - Service Solution


Cancels and replaces SN 70.03.10 of 02/04/2010.

FAULT COMPLAINED OF

Presence of water and/or moisture smell coming from the dashboard lower area.

TECHNICAL CAUSE

In case of heavy rain, the water drain from the windscreen base can be slowed down and in some cases the stagnation can filter through the fixing area to the air duct bulkhead towards the heater and/or through the upper fixing points of the pedal unit.

Improved sealing on the engine compartment/passenger compartment partition bulkhead.

OPERATIONS IN NETWORK

Network behaviour standards towards the Customer

-Once the customer's claimed fault is confirmed, reassure the Customer that it shall be solved by removing moisture traces and sealing the air duct fixing area to the bulkhead and the upper fastening points of the pedal unit.-After the operation, show the Customer what has been done and make sure he is satisfied.

Service Solution

If the claimed fault is confirmed, make sure that the water comes from the tank at the basis of the windscreen and seal the air duct fixing area and the upper fastening points of the pedal unit, according to the Operating Cycle below.

OPERATION CYCLE

-remove the windscreen wiper unit, with reference to Op. 5050B38 of the Service Manual;-carefully clean the area below the right fixing bracket of the windscreen wiper mechanism, then apply Dow Corning 7091 sealant (no. 71753861), to cover the whole area (A - Fig. 1).

    -prise up the clip (1 - Fig. 2) for cable harness fastening; dry and carefully clean the application area then, seal the contour (A) of the heads of the upper screws (2) for pedal unit fastening using Dow Corning 7091 sealant (no. 71753861).

      -prise up the clips (1 - Fig. 3) for cable harness fastening; dry and carefully clean the application area then, seal the contour of the air duct (2), as shown, using Dow Corning 7091 sealant (no. 71753861).

        Once the sealant has dried up, reposition the cable harness and engage the fastening clips (1), reinstall the windscreen wiper unit with reference to Op. 5050B38.

        After sealing the air duct, make sure that the water drain sleeves are not clogged or incorrectly positioned.
