Service Solution

Once the claimed fault is confirmed, trim the crossmember and replace the windscreen base trim, according to the Operating Cycle below.

OPERATION CYCLE

- The windscreen base trim part no. 156084508, for LHD cars, will be available at the Spare Parts stock until stocks last.

- For the assembly of the new trim on cars with chassis number before 1177735, check if the open slot (A - Fig. 1) - identifying the old crossmember - is present: if this is the case, trim the part as described below.

- The new crossmember has a closed slot and is consistent with the new windscreen base trim; in this case, the trimming operationis not required.

Remove the windscreen base trim, with reference to Op. 7210E22 of the Service Manual.

In case of old windscreen base crossmember: remove a section of sheet from the front edge to install the new trim, operating as follows.

-Identify the area involved on the windscreen base crossmember, as shown.

Fig. 1

-Use an indelible marker pen or a marker bit to identify the area of sheet to be removed, as shown in Fig. 2.

Before performing the operations below, arrange suitable personal protection means according to the safety regulations in force on the work place, valid in the relevant country.

Suitably protect the windscreen glass and the engine compartment.

-Use a jig saw to cut the marked sheet edges, with the utmost care; level the cut edge with a file.

    Fig. 2

-Use a Scotch Brite pad or similar to smooth the edge of the crossmember involved by the operation.-Remove any residues of dust using compressed air and clean the entire surface using a low VOC detergent or an anti-static product.-Apply rust-proofing protection to the areas involved in the painting.

      PAINTING OF THE OPERATION AREA

Clean the areas to be painted using a cloth soaked in detergent with a low solvent content (e.g. Glasurit 360-4 or alternative solvents permitted by the regulations in force as for environmental protection):

-apply the 40-50-micron thick double-component primer (e.g. Glasurit by Basf 285-700 or similar).-dry the primer drier for about 40 minutes at a temperature of 60 -70 C.-paint the crossmember using body colour paint, dry for about 40 minutes at 60 -70 C.

For the use of chemicals closely follow the instructions and warnings on the safety sheet that the supplier must give the consumer in accordance with the laws in force in the area (for Italy in accordance with Legislative Decrees 52/97 and 285/98 and subsequent modifications and additions).

Before refitting the new windscreen base trim apply on the same side housings (A and B - Fig. 3) the locating dowels from the Spare Parts Dpt.

The pin fitting position is facilitated by the "right "or "left" wording printed on the same pin.
