FAULT COMPLAINED OF

Braking noise/screeching.

TECHNICAL CAUSE

In some cases, vibrations may affect front disc brake pads.

OPERATIONS IN NETWORK

Network behaviour standards towards the Customer

  • Once the customer's claimed fault is confirmed, reassure the Customer that the fault will be solved by adopting a new series of front pads having noise-deadening plates.
  • After the operation, show the Customer what has been done and make sure he is satisfied.

Service Solution

Only for cars with mileage below 20,000 km, once the customer's claimed fault is confirmed, replace the brake pads with new ones, having noise-deadening plates, according to the Operating Cycle below.

OPERATION CYCLE

Remove the front brake pads with reference to Op. 3310A60 of the Service Manual.

Before refitting the new pads with plate, comply with the following precautions:

  • Clean the pad resting zone using suitable materials and products (e.g. a moist cloth).
  • Do not use products which could damage rubber parts, such as thinner, perchloro-ethylene, petrol, etc.
  • Check that there is no damage to pistons or breakage to the dust gaiters, clean the plate braking band with a degreasing product.
  • Make sure that the friction surfaces of the new brake pads are not fouled with grease: remove all traces of grease with sand paper if required.

Fit the new brake pads in the front brake calipers as described:

  • Correctly position the new noise-deadening plates on the back of the brake pads.
  • Arrange the retaining peg of the brake pads in its housing and fasten it with the corresponding pins.
  • Connect the electric connection of the pad wear wire and engage the wiring in its housing on the caliper.
  • Refit the front wheels (Op. 4450B12).
  • Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir.
  • Press the brake pedal to restore force and normal operation of the pedal itself.
  • Remove the vehicle from the lift.
