145 - MiTo   1.4 16v TJet   Passenger pretens. resist.   B0107

To apply this procedure, the following must be borne in mind:

1 - Measurements cannot be taken on the Air Bag wiring

2 - System fault diagnosis should be started leaving the vehicle loads connected

3 - The fault should be 'Present' or 'Present Intermittently' and not 'Intermittent'. If the fault is Intermittent then the procedure is not applicable; proceed with an accurate check on the line where the fault was signalled

4 - Not all the simulation sensors are available (e.g. side impact sensors).

The airbag fault warning light is controlled by a dedicated connection to the airbag control unit Instrument Panel Node.

The Air Bag wiring is a safety component. If there are problems with the cables or the connectors then the wiring should be replaced in its entirety.

Test results

1

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION CHECK

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Turn the ignition key to the STOP position. Check that the connector at the control unit is correctly connected.

Go to Step 2

The connector is not correctly connected

Reconnect the connector correctly.

Delete the errors using the diagnostic equipment and Go to Step 6

2

ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT CHECK

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Check the electrical circuit

Go to Step 3

S.C. resistance too low

O.C. resistance too high

Restore correct operation

Restore correct operation

3

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION CHECK

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Check the electrical circuit for short circuits to Vbatt. and earth.

Go to Step 4

Short circuit to Vbatt.

Short circuit to earth

1. Restore insulation to + battery

2. Restore insulation to earth

4

PRETENSIONER CHECK

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Disconnect the faulty pretensioner from the wiring and connect the simulation resistance in its place.

Turn the ignition key to MAR and activate communication with the diagnostic equipment. Check whether the fault for that pretensioner has become Intermittent.

Go to Step 5

The fault is still Present

Turn the ignition key to the STOP position.

Replace the rear wiring

Op. 5505C40 INTEGRATED PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WIRING - R.R. WITH INTERFERING COMPONENTS REMOVED

5

REPLACING THE FRONT SEAT BELT

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Turn the ignition key to the STOP position. Replace the front seat belt with the faulty pretensioner

Op. 7065A12 FRONT SEAT BELT (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT, WITH PRETENSIONER ON REEL - R.R.

Delete the errors using the diagnostic equipment

6

CORRECT OPERATION CHECK

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Check that the diagnostic equipment is not signalling other faults

End of diagnosis

The diagnostic equipment is signalling other faults

Proceed as instructed
