145 - MiTo   1.4 16v TJet   Brake switch   C1215

The diagnostic equipment signals the following error: "C1215 - brake switch"

This error can be signalled in two sets of cases. The first is when there is an open circuit in the brake lights switch or the wiring, the brake lights are burnt out or the reading circuit is damaged. In these cases the voltage reading at the brake lights switch is not in the range below 55% (pedal released) or above 75% (pedal pressed) of the battery voltage. The second group of cases is where there is an open circuit or short circuit (at the positive or to earth) of the wiring or the brake lights switch, if the switch or the reading circuit is damaged. In all these cases the braking action is detected without pressing the brake pedal switch (or the closure of the switch contacts)

BRAKE SWITCH VOLTAGE CHECK

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Using the Examiner, check the correct voltage values at the brake pedal switch pins.

Specifically:

- The voltage should be less than 55% of the battery voltage if the pedal is released

- The voltage should be more than 75% of the battery voltage if the pedal is pressed

ELECTRICAL CHECKS

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Check that the electrical connections for the brake lights circuit are correct

Also check that the brake lights are not burnt out

Move on to Step 3

1. Wiring faulty

2. Brake lights burnt out

3. Third brake light burnt out

1. Repair the wiring

2. Replace the rear light cluster

Op. 5540A44 REAR LIGHT CLUSTER (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT - R.R.

3. Replace the third brake light

 Op. 5550D16 THIRD BRAKE LIGHT - R+R

BRAKE PEDAL STATUS CHECK

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Connect the diagnostic equipment to the ABS control unit and, in the "PARAMETERS" mode, check the "BRAKE PEDAL STATUS" parameter.

Press the brake pedal and read "PRESSED". Release the brake pedal and read "RELEASED"

BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH CHECK

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Check the condition of the brake pedal switch

See Test 5550DA BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH OPERATION CHECK

Move on to Step 5

Switch faulty

For 1.4 16v Tjet versions:

Replace the brake pedal switch

 Op. 5550D10 BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH - R+R

CORRECT OPERATION CHECK

All OK

Problems encountered

Operation

Delete the errors using the diagnostic equipment.

Road test

See Test 3340OA ABS SYSTEM INTERVENTION CHECK

to ensure that the control unit checks whether there are any errors still present.

Return to the workshop and check that the fault is no longer present using the diagnostic equipment

End of diagnosis

The fault persists
